Today, you continued working on your "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" PowerPoint project. Think about the creation process. Which part of creating your presentation has required the most thought or creativity? What choices have you made with your information, images, or slide design to help communicate your understanding of the story? Explain.

Prompt: I think the part of my presentation that required the most thought was the slide where I was meant to predict her future. This is because we don’t know their future or how they normally live their lives. The parts of my slides that show I understand the story is the info, it shows I know what I’m talking about. Summary: I think the part of my presentation that required the most thought was the slide where I was meant to predict her future Reflection: Both Mr. Shiftlet and Mrs. Lucy will are horrible people

The title “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” suggests that helping or protecting another person may also benefit you. Describe a time when helping someone else taught you something, changed your perspective, or made a positive difference in your own life.

Prompt Response:  I can't remember a time when helping someone benefited me more than something else would have. I also believe you should help someone just because it benefits you, that's an ulterioir motive. For example, I could pick between volunteering or videogames, while volunteering makes me feel good, video games make me happier but I still might choose volunteering because it's the right thing to do. Summary:  I can't remember a time when helping someone benefited me more than something else would have Reflection:  Mr. Shiflett is a bum and should have never approached Mrs. Lucynell in the first place. He is a horrible person.

Have you ever had a first impression of someone that later turned out to be wrong? What made you form that first impression, and what eventually changed your mind? Based on what you have read so far, what first impression do you have of Mr. Shiflet? Explain what he has said or done that has shaped your opinion of him.

Prompt Response:  Yes, my first impression of my friend scott was initially bad. In 3rd grade, he spoke many curse words and it kinda scared me because i'd never heard them before. But the very next year we sat next to each other's and became very good friends. Mr. Shiftlet is a bum who needs to get his shit together, tell the truth, and get to work and stop annoying old lady and her child, he is not jesus. I think very low of him because he is ahrrassing an old lady and smoking around a disabled child. Summary:  Yes, my first impression of my friend scott was initially bad. Prompt: Imagine someone could learn about you only by looking through your trash can. What three items might they find in your trash today, and what would each item reveal about your personality, habits, interests, or life right now?

Prompt Response:  In my trash can I don't have much which shows I don't throw things away much but the fwe things I do have is soda cans because I drink soda alot after school. You may also find paper from drawing when I'm bored, or finished assignments. This reveals my interest in drawing and from what I draw, that I like soda, and that I don't study. Summary:  his reveals my interest in drawing and from what I draw, that I like soda, and that I don't study. Reflection:  John has many websites he visits

Today, we learned about the two types of characterization: direct and indirect characterization. We then applied what we learned by analyzing characters from James Baldwin’s “The Rockpile” using the STEAL method: Speech, Thoughts, Effect on Others, Actions, and Looks. Now, apply characterization to yourself. If someone were using the STEAL method to characterize you, how would they describe you? Select all parts of STEAL and explain what they reveal about your personality. Use specific examples. For example, what do your actions reveal about you? What does the way you speak reveal? How do you affect others? What might your thoughts or appearance communicate about who you are? Write one full paragraph.

Prompt Response:   If someone used the STEAL method to characterize me, they would probably describe me as a kind, hardworking, and thoughtful person. My speech shows that I try to cheer people up or I'm warm when I talk to others, and I usually think before I say something that could hurt someone’s feelings. My thoughts reveal that I care about the people around me and often think about how my choices will affect others. My actions show that I am responsible because I try to finish my work, help others when they need it, and keep my promises. The effect I have on others shows that I can be supportive and encouraging, especially when someone is having a difficult day. Finally, my looks can communicate that I don't care too much about what others think. Summary:  Overall, the STEAL method would show that I am someone who cares about others, takes my responsibilities seriously, and tries to be a positive person. Reflection:  Gabrielle is still a terrible dad.

In "The Rockpile", John and Roy do not always receive the same treatment from the adults in their family. Have you ever felt that you or someone else in your family was treated differently from everyone else? What caused the difference, and do you think it was fair? Explain.

Prompt Response:  Yes, I feel I am treat more nicely than my brothers. I believe this is because I'm older and more responsible. Another reason is because they misbehave more and have ADHD which causes them to over-stimulate. I believe this is fair because we have different needs that need to be addressed in different ways. Equity over Equality. Summary:  Yes, I feel I am treat more nicely than my brothers. I believe this is because I'm older and more responsible. Reflection:  We went over the questions from the reading "The Rockpile" and I still don't like the father. The kids are scared of him, he is a terrible father.

In “The Rockpile,” the children know that the rockpile is dangerous and that they are supposed to stay away from it, but curiosity still draws them toward it. Think about a time when curiosity or temptation caused you to ignore a warning or rule. What happened, and what did you learn from the experience?

Prompt Response:  A time I was tempted to ignore a rule was when I went behind the fence of my old house. I was curious as to what was back there but was told not to because it may be dangerous due to poison ivy, holes, or coyotes. But I was curious so I went back there but there  wasn't any immediate danger, just some thorns and fallen trees. I learned that seeing things for yourself and making your own judgement if often important. Summary:  A time I was tempted to ignore a rule was when I went behind the fence of my old house. I was curious as to what was back there but was told not to because it may be dangerous due to poison ivy, holes, or coyotes. Reflection:  I didn't like the father or any of the adult characters in "The Rockpile"

September 11 changed many aspects of American life, even though your generation was born afterward. Think about a major event that has happened during your own lifetime, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or another event that affected your community or the country. How do you think your experience with that event helps you understand what it might have been like for Americans to experience the uncertainty and change following 9/11? Explain the connection.

Prompt Response:  I believe Covid 19 affected the country similarly to 9/11. I believe this because both events caused nationwide shock and fear. They both affected people regardless of age or gender. They both came from foreign countries. I think it helps me understand what people felt like when 9/11 happened because they were both very similar in terms of affect on the nation. I can understand the heartbreak of loss from both and the panic, fear, and shock it caused because Covid caused it too. Summary:  I believe Covid 19 affected the country similarly to 9/11. I believe this because both events caused nationwide shock and fear. They both affected people regardless of age or gender. They both came from foreign countries. Reflection:  The test today was pretty easy aside from a few questions. I sort of struggled with the questions about types of conflict because we didn't really go over it while reading.

Emily struggles with letting go of people throughout her life, and the ending reveals the extreme length she went to in order to keep Homer with her. Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change? Connect Emily’s actions to your own observations or experiences with people struggling to let go.

Prompt Response:  I think some people have difficulty accepting change or loss is because they've never experienced it before or they never want to experience it again. Another reason may be because they rely heavily on that person. I don't want to connect myself with ehr because she killed the person she didn't want to leave. It's not all that hard to get over someone leaving if you do it properly Summary:  I think some people have difficulty accepting change or loss is because they've never experienced it before or they never want to experience it again Reflection:  Emily is a bum, entitled, and terrible person.

Prompt: In “Because I could not stop for Death,” Emily Dickinson presents life as a journey that eventually comes to an end. What experiences in your life have reminded you that time moves quickly? How have those experiences affected the way you value your time?

Prompt Response:  Life moved quickly when I was younger. Now days feeler longer than they used to and I have less time and more time as the same time. It feels like I more time but less time to do what I want so I'm not having as much fun so time moves slower. like the saying "Time flies when your faving fun." I reminisce on my younger moments and realize how much fun I had. They made me value my free time more Summary:  I reminisce on my younger moments and realize how much fun I had. They made me value my free time more Reflection:  I learned Emily Dickinson wrote a poem about the feeling of dying, but she didn't die so how did she feel it.

In “Missing Your People,” Tracy Brower explains the importance of belonging. Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

Prompt Response:  I truly belonged with with my family. They understand who I am and what I like more than others. My mom and dad care for me and help me with anything I need at any time. My brothers are always fun and willing to do things with me. They all make me feel safe and happy. Summary:  I truly belonged with with my family. Reflection:  I did the comment lit today

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response:  A fear I have overcome is my fear of large rollercoasters. I used to be scared of them because I thought they were too fast and went too high. I overcame them because my summer camp counselor and peers told me to try a large rollercoaster at least once. I went on it and had a lot of fun and gradually came to love them alot. Now I go on every larger rollercoaster I see and it's all thanks to my camp counselor and peers.
